Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally

Updated: Dec 12, 2021

Save the Children is one of the international organizations that really caught my attention. Save the Children is an organization that is renowned for its research and presence on global affairs and issues pertaining to children around the world. Learning more about the organization I discovered that Save the Children has global programs in health, education, protection, hunger and livelihoods, emergency assistance, and policy and advocacy. Save the Children's Early Childhood Development programs ensure that young children survive and thrive that they are physically and emotionally healthy and intellectually curious and school readiness programs prepare them for school success (Save the Children, 2021). Save the Children has a team of ten dedicated applied researchers who build the capacity of the organization and its members globally to conduct research that helps the agency and our partners better understand what works for supporting all children’s learning and development. Save the Children country teams implement evidence-based programs to ensure that they are well positioned to pass along data on impact and equity as their projects grow and evolve.

I especially like that Save the Children has a great child development program called Save the Children's Literacy Boost. This literacy program is designed to leverage change by helping to change the lack of literacy by creating a culture of reading both inside and outside the classroom that dramatically improves children’s literacy development. Through Literacy Boost and other effective education and literacy programs, Save the Children is working together with partners around the world to ensure that every child receives a quality education and gains the skills and knowledge they need to thrive and develop (Save the Children, 2021).

Save the Children has an extensive career opportunity page for careers all over the world. In my job search I came across a job that interested me; Early Childhood Development Coach. These positions are located in Arkoma, Oklahoma and Ripley, Tennesse.

Global Fund for Children is an organization that invests in community-based organizations around the world to help children and youth reach their full potential and advance their rights. I chose this organization because their mission is to advance the dignity of children and youth around the world (Global Fund forChildren, 2021). GFC pursues its mission by making small grants to innovative community-based organizations working with some of the world's most vulnerable children and youth, complemented by a dynamic media program that, through books, documentary photography, and film, highlights the issues affecting children and celebrates the global society in which we all live.

Again I found an organization that promotes literacy. The Global Fund for Children seeks out educational organizations that are helping children learn despite all obstacles. Through their Global Media Ventures program, they harness the power of books, films, and documentary photography to celebrate community and diversity and meet the challenges faced by young people all over the world. Their Global Fund for Children Books has award-winning titles. To date, they have given away some 50,000 books through teir Books for Kids project (Global Fund forChildren, 2021). Global Fund for Children believes that literacy remains a pressing issue for children and families all over the world, and that reaching children at a young age is vital. Their multicultural books depict positive images of children, and incorporate their perspectives into the text. With vibrant photographs and kid-friendly narration, Global Fund for Children books can show a child from an isolated community what life is like in others parts of the world.

I could not find a career oppunity page but I find their join the movement page. My last resource I found was the United Nations Education, Scienfic, and Cultrual Orgaization. UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It seeks to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Science, and Culture. UNESCO develops educational tools to help people live as global citizens free of hate and intolerance. It aslo works so that each child and citizen has access to quality education.Through the avenues of scientific programmes and policies as platforms UNESCO promotes and fosters cultural heritage and the equal dignity of all cultures, Their misson is to strengthens bonds among nations (United Nations Education, Scienfic, and Cultrual Orgaization, 2021).

UNESCO and the Global Partnership Strategy for Early Childhood are urging governments to guarantee at least one year of compulsory pre-primary education. All children should be able to access a minimum level of services, regardless of socio-economic status, ethnicity, language, disability or remoteness. UNESCO provides global and regional leadership in education, strengthens education systems worldwide and responds to contemporary global challenges through education with gender equality an underlying principle (United Nations Education, Scienfic, and Cultrual Orgaization, 2021).

This organiztion interest me because it also believes in developing literacy through the world. UNESCO works through its global network, field offices and institutes and partners to advance literacy in the framework of lifelong learning, and address the literacy target. UNESCO promotes gender equality in all of its literacy work by supporting gender-sensitive and gender-responsive policies and through advocacy; strategic partnerships; resource mobilization and targeting programmes for girls and women (United Nations Education, Scienfic, and Cultrual Orgaization, 2021).

I searched on their career page for job postions that might interest me but could not find anything that interested me, however they do offer, publications, reports, mulitimedia resources, blog page, partnerships, and news and events. There are several different community of practices that you can join which did interest me. I did not select one but here is a link to the social emotional COP https://mgiep.unesco.org/article/fostering-communities-of-practice
